Vintage Apron

Here is a vintage apron pattern that I designed. I can finally show you since I gave it away as a gift today. I used Hope Valley-New Day fabric. Here is how I did it.

I took my existing thread-bare apron and laid it on a piece of muslin modifying the shape accordingly. It's a great thing to have large pieces of muslin around. It works better than butcher paper because you can pin it together, try it on, and see how it lays, making necessary modifications as you go.

I used a small plate to get the curves right.

Here I am seeing how it fits. It took me a few times to get it right.

I am enjoying trying to design projects by myself. Patterns can be too confining, expensive and difficult to follow with its many 'proper' steps, not to mention that it's not always here when I need it (like at midnight when everyone is in bed-except my husband who frequently works from our home after the kids are in bed -and I get a hankering for sewing). Sometimes there is just no way around it, though, especially when it is a new skill like this afghan pattern I plan on buying off etsy soon. Or you can always take a pattern and put your own twist to it. Give it a try! When you do, put it on the Things Made flicker on the left. I would love to see it.

If anyone wants the pattern, let me know. We can work something out. I'm considering starting an etsy store to sell my patterns, but I'm not sure how to get a big pattern into a pdf. Something to work on.

  2. T! It is so good to read you! :) Personally, I have a vintage apron just about like yours and I really do .like. it -- but the one you made for me is my All Time Favorite and actually has a little hole. I plan on replicating it very soon! :) Love to you all, S
